Stereology in primate pancreas analysis presented at the 2011 Society of Toxicologic Pathology meeting
Flagstaff, AZ (07/01/2011) — Flagship Biosciences, a quantitative pathology services company, presented the use of stereology for analysis of diabetes endpoints at the 2011 Society of Toxicologic Pathology Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado. The poster presentation included the use of Visiopharm’s Whole Slide Stereology suite for analyzing primate pancreas for measuring alpha cell counts, beta cell counts, and beta cell mass. These endpoints are important in the evaluation of new diabetes compounds. Flagship’s pathologists have been involved in image analysis of beta cell mass for many years, including a highly cited poster presentation at the 2005 American Diabetes Association meeting by Dr. Frank Voelker, and a recent publication on evaluation of DPP-4 inhibitors with image analysis.
